Today Yan Zombie, of Nelson BC’s Cyphanex crew, offered up his full length album of soulful, mainly instrumental hip hop, called “The Hold On Tight: Analogue Slices of Love & Confusion,” on a pay-what-you-can basis via his bandcamp page, click the cover below to grab it.
This album got a massive amount of play around our house the summer before last, as it is mindblowingly catchy from start to finish, with a ridiculously high standard of quality in place – each sound that appears on the record was lovingly sampled directly from vinyl and the album was then mastered by Ryan Morey in Montreal, who masters the Canadian Ninja Tune material (ie Kid Koala & Poirier) not to mention Grammy-winners The Arcade Fire.
If you’re in coastal BC, you’re in for a treat as Yan has a few gigs out here this month – he’ll be in Victoria this Thursday January 12th, here in Vancouver on Sat January 21st, and in Whistler on Tuesday January 24th with Mat The Alien – each show he’ll be performing alongside Chicago’s MC Zulu. I also highly recommend grabbing Yan’s recent mix for Montreal’s J’aime Le Dubstep collective, you can do so here. Otherwise, stay tuned via his fan page, twitter, & soundcloud.
