Starting this Sunday May 13th, I’ll be starting up a new summertime weekly at the Keefer Bar in Chinatown. I’ll be focusing on vintage reggae and dub selections, emphasizing vinyl and in particular, 7-inch 45′s. The Keefer’s creative director, Free Lee, is also an energy healer & Shiatsu massage practitioner, and will be onsite offering up short massage sessions.
It’ll be an ideal place to wind down your weekend with some relaxing selections, not to mention the usual apothecary-inspired libations from the bar, designed to “soothe ailments & balance one’s mood”. There are drink specials as well – namely, a $5 Mount Gay rum special, and a $5 beer special. It’s also worth noting that Danielle Tatarin, the Keefer’s bar manager, was just recently dubbed Bartender of the Year, by Vancouver Magazine as part of their Vancouver Restaurant Awards series.
We’ll see some varied guests over the summer, including Taal Mala & Tank Gyal, both of Vancouver’s illustrious Lighta! crew, as well as Bevvy Swift of Glitchy & Scratchy. Watch out for a special all-vinyl edition on the long weekend and a special visit from our sponsor’s rep – Mount Gay Rum – who, I imagine, will be offering up samples of their spirits. The Keefer is at 135 Keefer St at Quebec St, in Chinatown.
