Sunday Sessions at The Charlatan on Commercial Drive..

Last Sunday we had the pleasure of kicking off a brand new weekly at The Charlatan pub here on the Drive, with old school turntablist & hip hop selector from Guelph, Ontario – DJ DMS.  The back room was packed all night, and while we had planned on ending at midnight, he played through ’til 1:30 to a colourful mix of industry people & Drive regulars..  This Sunday, I’ll be throwing down a healthy blend of classic era hip hop, loungey trip hop, reggae & dubby head nodders alongside curator of the night, Daktur.. Daktur has just recently returned to the turntables after an extended sabbatical, before which he was maintaining residencies throughout Ontario – jump on to his soundcloud for both dj mixes & original productions.

Check the facebook event page for this for more info, but you might expect to hear jams like this one, from The Coup..

We are hoping this turns into a staple weekend wind-down on the Drive, with plans to bring in other East Van DJs such as Mandai (Nov 6th!), Max Ulis, Application, Spiltmilk, DJ Soo, the Funk Hunters & many more.. So come join us for some great food, and cheap Caesars – $5.75 doubles!  They also feature a massive selection of draught beer, with over 10 taps running different brews at any given time – check their website for a peek at their drink & dinner menus.  No cover at all, of course, good company and chill beats – why not come by and close out your weekend at The Charlatan?

Oh, and I’m definitely gonna drop some Portishead tunes, in anticipation of their show at the PNE the next night..
