Starting this Sunday May 13th, I’ll be starting up a new summertime weekly at the Keefer Bar in Chinatown. I’ll be focusing on vintage reggae and dub selections as well as contemporary dancehall & bass music, emphasizing vinyl and in particular, 7-inch 45’s.
It’ll be an ideal place to wind down your weekend with some relaxing selections, not to mention the extraordinary apothecary-inspired libations from the bar, designed to “soothe ailments & balance one’s mood”. There are drink specials as well – namely, the Pineapple Express – Havana Club, pineapple juice, peach nectar, house-made ginger beer). It’s also worth noting that Danielle Tatarin, the Keefer’s bar manager, was just recently dubbed Bartender of the Year, by Vancouver Magazine as part of their Vancouver Restaurant Awards series. The Keefer has been in the top 3 of the Georgia Straight’s Best Lounges in the city over the past 3 years, claiming first prize in 2015 and 2013.
We’ll see some varied guests over the summer, including Taal Mala & Tank Gyal, both of Vancouver’s illustrious Lighta! crew, as well as Bevvy Swift of Glitchy & Scratchy. Watch out for all-vinyl throwdowns on long weekends, with a constant stream of new guests from Vancouver and beyond. The Keefer is at 135 Keefer St at Columbia, in Chinatown.
