After releasing a steady stream of strong singles over the past year or 2, including remixes & collaborations with Pinch & Scuba, Berlin-based Emika‘s debut full length LP was released earlier this month via Coldcut‘s legendary record label Ninja Tune, to rave reviews thus far. Right now, Emika is finishing up her stint opening for fellow Ninja Tune artist Amon Tobin on his sold-out North American tour, but the day after they finish their 3 sold out shows in NYC – she’ll be making her way here to Vancouver, for a special Halloween party at W2: HalloW2een.
This party is part of W2’s Black Light Series of events, for which you can purchase a single pass (order here) to gain entry to 4 parties over the next two weekends: Emika this Friday, Todd Edwards & XI (!) on Saturday, El Dia de los Muertes with WEPA! (Self Evident’s Cumbia crew) on the following Friday, and finally, Calamalka, Eames & more on Saturday November 5th. For this series of parties, W2 & the Woodward Atrium will be fully dialed with 2 stages spread across 3 floors, with blacklight installations & media performances throughout.
Back to the issue at hand, the rest of the info for the Emika show on Friday has been released, including a handful of fresh performers added to the bill:
– Rhia Wellbelove: a local tech house DJ representing Believe, check out her mixes on her soundcloud
– Andrew Van Hassel: up & coming producer of all things eclectic, his beats are on his soundcloud
– Application: Shambhala mainstay & the city’s go-to sound man these days, he’s just recently uploaded all his tracks to his soundcloud for your perusal
– Echo Pilot: a local producer signed to Mushroom Lounge records, he will be doing an exclusive live PA set
– dj Dubconscious: yep, that’s right, yours truly has been added to the bill! Check out my new mix, if you haven’t heard it yet..
These acts are in addition to the support that was initially released, including Lighta! crew members Max Ulis & Michael Red, the latter of whom will be rocking his brand new live PA set up. We will also be welcoming Amanda Rude of the Fly DJs crew back to Canada, as she has been abroad in Germany on an exchange for the past while.
